What is ELAC?

The English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) provides written recommendations to the School Site Council regarding programs and services for ELL students. ELAC reviews English learners’ data and academic performance to determine the recommendations made. In addition, ELAC receives training on the Master Plan Program Options, School Plan for Student Achievement, Importance of SChool Attendance and the Comprehensive Needs Assessment.

Why do we have an English Learner Advisory Committee?

ELAC is a state requirement. According to Education Code 52176(b), all schools with 21 or more English learner students (not including Reclassified Fluent English Proficient (RFEP) students, are required to establish an English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). All parents with students attending the school in which the ELAC is established are eligible and are encouraged to take part in the ELAC meetings and trainings.
